As the world pays attention to the COVID-19 pandemic, other pressing issues continue in our community. One of those issues is the growing homeless population and lack of action to address it by CalTrans. If you’ve been following us, you know that Lynwood has homeless encampments on property owned by CalTrans but within our City limits.
We have all been asking CalTrans to help us help the homeless. We now call upon CalTrans to release funds and provide authority to the City of Lynwood so that we outreach to homeless individuals on their property and try to place them in programs and or supportive housing. We understand that CalTrans is unable to undertake that effort themselves right now because of COVID-19. Unfortunately, the residents of Lynwood and the homeless population cannot wait for the pandemic to pass for someone to take action. Every day that passes means more people are at risk – that includes those who are homeless as well as our residents who live or work near the encampments.
The City of Lynwood welcomes cooperation with CalTrans to help the homeless population.
Let’s work together!
