Lynwood City Manager Jose Ometeotl informed all motel owners that the city will intensify its inspections of their properties, beginning this week and will be bringing forth new laws to curtail illicit operations.
“There have been significant concerns expressed and observed about the physical condition of the facilities and the resulting health issues that could develop,” he said. “I informed the owners that we would making sure the facilities are up to code and that if they are already compliant, they have nothing to worry about.”
Public Safety Manager J.D. Whitaker and his team have formulated a game plan for building and code inspections which will involve every motel in the city.
The motels are predominately along Long Beach Boulevard and believed to serve the problematic prostitution trade that the city has been addressing.
“We are also working with the LA County Sheriff’s Department to dramatically increase enforcement of prostitution laws, ” added the City Manager. “We believe that through aggressive code and law enforcement, we will have safer, cleaner and prostitute free motels in or community.”
