When Lynwood residents spoke out about the dangers of illegal fireworks, the City listened. This year, the Lynwood City Council voted to raise the fines for possessing and using illegal fireworks as well as giving residents an avenue to report violations.
The increased fines resulted in a significant decrease in illegal firework usage compared to last year.
“Ridding the city of illegal fireworks is a public safety issue in Lynwood. The city council will assess the impact of our efforts and the future of fireworks in our city as we go forward,” said Mayor Jose Solache.” We thank all who helped make this a safe 4th of July in Lynwood.”
To mitigate the use of illegal fireworks, the City hosted a professional fireworks show at Lynwood Park and allowed the use and sale of “safe and sane” fireworks benefitting local non-profit organizations.
