The Lynwood City Council “appointed” Crystal Vo, Kid Mayor for the month of August at its meeting on Wednesday.
Crystal will be entering 6thgrade this fall at Rosa Parks’ elementary school; she appeared at the Council meeting with her mother.
Dawn Green, Principal at Rosa Parks’ elementary nominated Crystal as Kid Mayor.
“When the principal called my mom to tell her I was selected as Kid Mayor, I cannot express how excited I was,” said Crystal. “I want to thank my family and Mrs. Green, they are why I am successful in school, they encourage me to do my very best.”
She received a name plaque, certificate and a pin that she will wear when she attends various city events throughout the month of August. Crystal also received $400 towards her college education. She has plans on attending UCLA and becoming a pediatrician.
The “Kid Mayor” Program is designed to get more young people interested in government. There are twelve schools in Lynwood and each school is represented for a month.
