Do you know who the “Burke” of Burke-Ham Park is?
She is Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, who served as a Los Angeles County Supervisor for the Second District from 1992 to 2008.
Before representing Lynwood on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, she served in the California State Assembly and was the first black women from the West Coast in the US House of Representatives, serving three terms.
She is currently a member of the Amtrak Board of Directors, appointed by President Obama in 2013.
Thank you, Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, for your leadership in our community.
