This year, the City of Lynwood celebrates it’s Centennial year. Each week, we’ll take a look at Lynwood’s history.
Do you know how Lynwood got its name?
Charles H. Sessions acquired land near the area that today is Sanborn Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard from Jonathon S. Slauson, a Los Angeles banker for whom Slauson Avenue is named. Sessions turned the land into a dairy, naming it Lynwood, an abbreviation of his wife’s given and maiden names, Lynne Wood. He was also a founder of the Lynwood Company, where he was engaged in business for many years. (from the book, Images of America: Lynwood)
