The Lynwood City Council adjourned its meeting Tuesday night in the memory of Rachel Chavez, a long-time community leader.
Ms. Chavez passed away recently. She was a member of the Lynwood Unified School Board for 24 years, She was elected to the School Board six times and was revered by education leaders in Lynwood and the entire region.
“She was, quite simply, a champion of education,” said Lynwood Mayor Pro Tem Jose Solache who served with her on the School Board for ten years.
Councilmember Oscar Flores also echoed the sentiments saying that Ms. Chavez was a “true champion of the entire community who genuinely cared about the children of our community.”
The Lynwood School District put it well in a Facebook post this week:
