Rick Sandzimier is the new Director of Public Works with the City of Lynwood. He brings more than 30 years of public works, community development and strategic planning experience to the department. Rick’s experience includes leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining the City, Mr. Sandzimier served as the Community Development Director for the City of Moreno Valley. Before that, he held management positions in Public Works with the County of Orange and Public Works with the City of Irvine and served in key roles in emergency operations response preparation.
He has also served as an appointed Planning and Transportation Commissioner for a city, as a Board Member of a Workforce Investment Board, as a Subdivision Committee member for multiple jurisdictions, and other committee and board appointments over his career. This experience makes him uniquely qualified to provide leadership and evaluate and direct projects and programs from multiple perspectives. In the private sector, he served as a Senior Manager for an international architectural/engineering firm delivering major transportation and transit projects for municipal agencies.
Mr. Sandzimier is a long-standing member of the American Planning Association, Urban Land Institute and International City/County Management Association. He likes to be engaged in the communities he serves and has participated in hands-on efforts to address community clean-ups, homelessness, public safety, as well as celebratory events.
A graduate of the University of California, Irvine, Mr. Sandzimier has also completed various leadership academies. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, traveling and tinkering on home-improvement projects.
