Congratulations to Lynwood’s Hometown Hero Adelaida “La Cobra” Ruiz! She recently won the WBC Interim Super Flyweight Championship belt in Costa Rica and is currently 12-0 with six knockouts!
Ms. Ruiz was honored at this week’s Lynwood City Council members and she showed her pride at being from Lynwood. “When they announce me, they always tend to say ‘Los Angeles, California,’ and I always have to correct them. ‘No, I’m not from Los Angeles, California, I’m from Lynwood California.’”
A single of mother of three children, Ms. Ruiz is a graduate of Lynwood Unified School District’s Vista High School. That’s where she found inspiration from her principal who told her she would one day be a world champion.
“You’re setting that high standard which we all love,” said Councilmember Oscar Flores during the City Council presentation. “Congrats to your entire family for doing what they do. You’ve achieved something that none of us could achieve, kudos to you and your dad for achieving what they have as well.”
“I know it’s an honor being back in Lynwood being recognized for my achievement, something that I had a dream of (doing),” she said.
