You will soon notice some new signs around Lywnood’s schools.
They will reflect the new Safe School Zones that have been established in Lynwood. The Zones will extend 1000 feet from school grounds and 100 feet from designated bus stops.
“There will be increased penalties for crimes within the zone during school hours or within 60 minutes before and after school sponsored activity on campus,” said Michelle Ramirez, the Community Development Director for the city of Lynwood.
The penalties include fines up to $500 and from up to six months in jail for a first offense to a mandatory 90-day jail sentence for third and subsequent offenses
“Helping keep the children of Lynwood safe is obviously an imperative for the city,” said Mayor Jose Solache. “These Safe School Zones will help us meet that goal.”
