The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lynwood COPS Team conducted patrol checks along Long Beach Boulevard for prostitution related activity during school hours. The team conducted a Foot Patrol Operation along Long Beach Boulevard. The team provided high visibility and contacted business owners along the route to learn their concerns. The team conducted extra patrol checks on Imperial Highway and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and California Ave.
Despite the installation of surveillance cameras above all of the City’s major thoroughfares, monitored by deputies at Century Station, a portion of Long Beach Boulevard has continued to have problems with activity – which has continued to affect the quality of life for residents and business, plus parents and teachers from Helen Keller Elementary School located in the area. The City of Lynwood and Century Station have been and will continue to monitor that area of the City.
The Foot Beat patrol resulted in several arrests which was a major win. Equally significant was the fact that the Sheriff’s personnel were also able to connect with passers-by and business owners who often walk in or operate in fear throughout the day. “Some days are really good and some days are really bad,” said one business owner on Long Beach Boulevard. Business owners and residents will be seeing Sheriff’s deputies get out of their cars and start patrolling by foot more often.
If you would like to report activity in your area please contact Century Sheriff’s Station at (323) 568-4800. In case of an Emergency please call 9-1-1.
