If you grew up in Lynwood or even just lived here for a few years, you have probably visited Bateman Hall for one reason or another. It could be that you attended a school event, a quinceñera, a city meeting or you cast your vote for President or City Council.
Bateman Hall has been the main gathering location for the City of Lynwood, its residents and visitors since it was built in 1961. It is a model of mid-century architecture.
Did you know that the main room is called Thompson Auditorium? It was named in 1986 after the late Lynwood City Councilmember Louis Thompson.
There is also a rumor that “American Bandstand” used Bateman Hall as a location. We can’t confirm if that’s true or not. If you know if that happened, please let us know!
For the past year, Bateman Hall has been quiet as gatherings have been canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We can’t wait to see it busy again – we’ll let you know when it re-opens.
