Calling Lynwood artists!
Los Angeles County is looking for students and community members to participate in a Chalkathon to encourage residents to respond to the 2020 Census. The deadline to respond has been moved to an earlier date of September 30, which is concerning because about 40% of LA County households have not been counted.
At risk is adequate federal funding for programs such as meals for our youth and seniors, infrastructure improvements, education, public safety, affordable housing and healthcare.
The countywide Census “CHALKATHON” will take place August 17-September 7.
Participants are invited to create sidewalk art promoting Census participation. All art pieces should include “2020census.gov” and “Everyone Counts!” Messages in multiple languages are encouraged.
There will be a weekly raffle of Census goodies and giveaways for participants who share their artwork on social media and use the hashtags #CaStudentsCount and #LACcensuschalkathon.
We will also highlight professional chalk artists who will create artwork in designated locations throughout the county.
For more information on this event and how you can get involved, contact LACOE Census Program Specialist Esmeralda X Flores at flores_esmeralda@lacoe.edu or call (562) 774-6991.
And, if you haven’t responded to the Census yet, do it now!
